Metal Works
The Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. was the first
major showcase theater built specifically for African
Americans in the United States. Since it's debut in
1910 legendary performers such as Count Basie, Louis
Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Charlie
Parker, Lena Horne and Diana Ross have performed
there. After a long and glorious history the theater
was forced to close in 1970 in the aftermath of the
1968 riots and desegregation. In 1974 it was added to
the National Register of Historic Places. Several
attempts were made to bring the theater back to life
in the 1970s and 1980s. Currently there are plans to
restore the theatre in 2009 for a 2010 reopening just
in time to celebrate her 100th birthday.
This piece is elegantly framed and ready to hang. Shipping and applicable taxes are included.
