Residencies are offered to writers whose work demonstrates an interest in the integration of the perspectives of the humanities, arts, and sciences in ways that recognize community values. Three single residencies are offered each year, in January, April, and November. Residents are provided with housing and a stipend toward food costs. Villa Aurora is operated by sister German and U.S. organizations. The Los Angeles program accepts up to 16 writers, visual artists, photographers, art historians, and filmmakers from Europe annually for 3-month residencies. In Berlin, 3-month residencies are awarded each year in literature, music composition, and film to 12 young (up to 40 years old) writers and artists living and working in Germany; 2 artists working together may share one grant.
