"I want to thank you for the insights that I gained at your seminar. Some of what you said did not register with me until later when I was building a new website for myself and I decided to follow your advice and ask for help from my friends. It is eye opening to realize that we often overlook resources that we have readily available to us. Thanks!"
Suzun Hughes, Multimedia Artist

Workshop: The Essential First Thirty.
Instructor: Matt McKinley

Two sessions workshop:

Monday, November 5th and Monday, November 12th

6.30 pm-8.00 pm
Market Street Gallery: 1554 Market St., Map

What to bring:

Part One:

  • printed version of your most recent artist statement (not a necessity if you don’t have one).

Part Two:

  • email to instructor a copy of your artist statement (revised, if applicable) as UNFORMATTED TEXT.
  • One piece of your original artwork, 36” x 36” or less.

Now that you have produced all this wonderful artwork, what do you want to do with it? In order to get the results you expect, what are your strategies for changing goals into reality?

Talent aside, achieving success as a fine artist requires that you are able to communicate how what you do is different from anyone else. Often however, your window for communicating this information is 30 seconds or less. It is therefore crucial to your ultimate success to be prepared for all opportunities to present yourself, your work and your artistic interests and to be able to maximize the return on the first 30 seconds of any interaction.

"The Essential First 30" addresses the obstacles to your success by providing you with strategies and tools necessary to identify and take advantage of quality opportunities for promoting yourself. Discussed and practiced will be your approach, your presentation and your close, all focused on your goals.

Part One of "The Essential First 30" covers developing your 30 second or less presentation about who you are, what you do and why your listeners would want to know more about you.
You will be given strategies for developing an effective, concise presentation that can be applied to any interaction and that minimizes the time needed to qualify leads. Also addressed during this first session is writing an effective single page artist statement.

Part Two of "The Essential First 30" is the practical application of Part One.
Each participant will be given the opportunity to present their 30 second presentation followed by peer and instructor review. Through group activity, the effectiveness of your artist statement will also be evaluated.

Workshop fees for two sessions:
MesArt members: $25 | Non-members: $30
