Briefly, this dark painting deals with the subject of the abuse of women. A dark crouched male figure enters a temple-like interior through a small opening and casts a long shadow towards a distraught female figure. The story of abuse unfolds through a progression of faceless Cycladic sculptures (which are used to imply that much abuse often goes unseen). A male Cycladic figure on the right invades the female side of the temple, forcefully unites himself to a female figure, and abuse instead of love ensues. Though tragic, there is at times some hope of deliverance from this situation which is implied in the painting.
